Sunday liquor sales open in Demopolis

Those seeking to cool off with a cold adult beverage on hot Sundays no longer have to worry if the refrigerator is bare. Sunday liquor sales is now open with the City of Demopolis.
In 2014, the city council adopted a resolution allowing for the sale of alcohol on Sundays within the city limits. In order to become law, that resolution had to go to Montgomery to be considered by state leaders. The resolution missed the 2014 session, but was passed by the House and Senate in the most recent 2015 session and has been signed by the governor, according to Demopolis Mayor Mike Grayson.
Business will be required to stop selling alcohol at 2 a.m. on Sunday. On Sunday mornings they may resume the sell of alcohol at 11 a.m. and continue through midnight. There is a one-minute hold at midnight before Monday liquor sales will being at 12:01 a.m.
