Half of 22 local college players see action Saturday

Several players from Marengo County came up big for their colleges and universities over the weekend.
Of the 22 players from the area playing in college, half of them saw action on the field.
Of the players that graduated from Demopolis, DaMarcus James, Martaze Jackson, Wiley Isaac and Larry Cobb were all big in their teams’ wins.
James ran for 123 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries for Jacksonville State.
Jackson had five tackles and a sack for UWA.
Isaac had two tackles and an interception for Stillman and Cobb had three catches for 51 yards for Tuskegee.
Other players from Demopolis that participated in their school’s games but did not record stats were:
•Steven Foster – South Alabama
•Tyler Merriweather – Georgia Tech
•Taylor Polk – Troy
Other Tigers on college teams that did not play were Hollis Bright, Demetrius Kemp, Cortez Lewis and Peyton Pearson.
For Linden Patriot Najee Bright had a big stat line during Alabama State’s game over the weekend. He recorded four tackles, a tackle for loss, two interceptions and two pass break ups.
Another former Patriot, Terris Lewis, recorded five tackles for Troy.
Justin DeLaine, T.J. Hinton, Tyler Davis and Gerald Bruno are the rest of Linden graduates on college rosters that didn’t play over the weekend.
Sweet Water’s Ty Morgan had two catches for 36 yards and a touchdown for UWA, while Chris Landrum had four tackles and a sack for Jacksonville State.
Derrick Tucker started at right guard for Miles in their opening game as well.
Former Bulldogs Jakoby Aldridge and Demarcus Gamble didn’t play for their teams over the weekend.
