Weather, turnovers hurt Marengo in loss

Poor weather conditions and mental mistakes played big in the Marengo Panthers’ 14-6 loss to Fruitdale on the road Friday.
The Panthers (1-1, 0-1) gave up four fumbles, including one inside the Fruitdale five yard line. After giving up two touchdowns in the first quarter, the Panthers couldn’t keep drives going to get back into the game.
“Overall, we beat ourselves,” MHS head coach Bernard Myrthil said. “We had 90 yards of penalties on mental mistakes and four fumbles. We can’t win that way. This was a hard loss, but all we can do is correct our mistakes and move on to our next opponent.”
The Panthers will travel to Chickasaw High School next week.
