The United Way of West Alabama will hold a clothing drive at the Theo Ratliff Activity Center this weekend.
The Ratliff Center will serve as a drop-off site for the drive Saturday, Aug. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The UWWA is looking for gently used clothing, coats and shoes.
Kathryn Pearson, community service organizer with the Theo Ratliff Center, said she received a call about someone in Marengo County needing help and decided to do something about it.
“There are people in this area that need help, and I feel like this will help supply the needs of people in Marengo County,” she said. “I thought it would be a good idea to hold a drive.”
She said this is the first time the Ratliff Center has held a clothing drive to her knowledge.
“I just felt like this is a good way to get the community involved in a good cause,” she said.
In addition to the donation times on Saturday, Pearson said the Center will also accept donations on Friday if donors can’t make it Saturday.
“In a couple weeks, we’ll hold an event in our gym for people to come and pick up items they need,” she added.
