ABC Board agents found and destroyed several marijuana plants and confiscated packaged marijuana during an investigation near Vineland on Wednesday.
While exploring a wooded area in the southeastern corner of Marengo County, agents of the Alabama Alcohol Beverage Control Board found and destroyed several marijuana plants.
A subsequent search of a nearby residence turned up additional cannabis, which was confiscated.
ABC agents were conducting a rural woodland operation near the Vineland community when they encountered a suspect and seven marijuana plants growing nearby.
After initial questioning, the suspect agreed to allow the agents to search his home. An additional 142 grams of marijuana, already packaged for sale, was found and seized. The plants are valued at $2,000 each. The packaged cannabis is estimated to be worth about $1,500. An arrest and formal charges are pending further investigation.
The agents are part of the ABC Board’s Moonshine Task Force that investigates tips, develops leads and are skilled in tracking and following trails that are often associated with this type of illegal operation. Agents are responsible for enforcing laws dealing with alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs.
