Five local baseball players earn All-State honors

Five baseball players from Marengo County were named to All-State teams by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
Demopolis third baseman Tyler Oates was named to the Class 5A team. Oates led the Tigers offensively and was named one of the three team captains. He hit .395 during the season and added 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
Sweet Water’s Tanner Luker was named to the Class 2A team at the shortstop position. He hit .467 for the Bulldogs with 13 extra-base hits, 22 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He also played well on the mound for Sweet Water striking out 55 batters in 57 and a third innings while compiling a 1.47 ERA.
On the AISA team, Marengo Academy placed three players on the team. Kyle Friday was named to the AISA first-team as a designated hitter. During the season, he hit .404 with seven home runs, 42 RBIs and 35 runs scored. Friday was also the Longhorns’ ace on the mound during the season. He struck out 40 batters in 49 and a third innings with a 1.56 ERA.
Marengo Academy’s Hayden Huckabee was named an honorable mention as a pitcher, as he finished the season with a 7-0 record and a 1.91 ERA. He had 45 strikeouts over 44 innings.
Brant Lewis was also named an honorable mention from Marengo Academy as a third baseman. He hit .495 with a .571 on base percentage while hitting five home runs and driving in 31 runs. He also crossed the plate 42 times in the season.
