Linden’s annual Summer Celebration will be held June 17-21 with a carnival, art walk and more activities.
Carnival armbands will go on sale at Linden City Hall on June 12 for $12. The carnival will be open each evening and during the day Saturday. The “Wednesday Night Special” will be $10 and will be sold at the gate only.
The city’s second annual Art Walk will be held Friday, June 20 from 4-6:30 p.m.
Auburn student Cristiana Shipma partnered with Kathryn Friday of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and Brenda Tuck of the Marengo County Economic Development Authority through Auburn University’s College of Liberal Arts “Living Democracy” program.
During Shipma’s 10 weeks in Linden this summer, she will be working on several community projects, one of which is to once again host the downtown art walk.
An art workshop will be held June 11 and June 12 from 9-11 a.m. at the Marengo County Business Development Center, the former armory in Linden, for youth ages 8 and up. The cost is $5 to cover all supplies and their art will be displayed at the Art Walk.
Art will be displayed in storefronts and within select downtown businesses. Visitors are encouraged to walk from Whistle Stop to Charley Burl’s to fully enjoy all the art. Live music will be located at various places downtown, with face painting available at the Gazebo.
If any local artists would like to participate, call Shipma at (256) 361-7964 or email her at ces0043@auburn.edu. All art mediums are welcome.
A community yard sale will be held June 21. Citizens are encouraged to have yard sales on this day from 7 a.m. to noon. The yard sale fee will be waived this Saturday.
The city asks that if you set up on someone else’s property that you have written permission from the land owner. Set up is also welcome at the Gazebo.
Anyone who would like to set up at the Gazebo should call Bruce Ward at (334) 295-5051, extension 1. Space is limited, so call as soon as possible.
