The Demopolis Lady Tigers ended their season Friday at the South Central Regional Tournament in Troy.
Both Demopolis seniors, Baleigh Grace and Riley King, were unable to travel with the team due to Senior Honors Day at the high school.
“Not having them there definitely hurt us,” assistant coach Jeff Latham said. “We had to move girls to positions they weren’t used to playing, and one of them was a .300 hitter in our designated hitter spot.”
Demopolis opened the day at 8 a.m. Friday against Homewood and dropped the game 10-1.
Courtney Smith scored the only run of the game for Demopolis, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Natalie Tatum pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs and seven walks. She struck out four batters in the game.
Hanna Malone came in to relieve her for the final two innings and struck out two batters while giving up two earned runs.
The Lady Tigers faced Benjamin Russell in an elimination game.
The youthful Lady Tigers fell to the Wildcats 18-5 to end their season.
Benjamin Russell scored 11 runs in the seventh inning to pull away from Demopolis.
Abbey Latham led the way for Demopolis with two RBIs on a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
Jessica Adams was also 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Rachel Smith was 1-for-2 with a RBI, and Courtney Smith and Napoleon Roberson also scored in the game.
“Both games were close until the end, but we just couldn’t finish,” Latham said. “That comes with being such a young team, though.”
The Lady Tigers end the season with a record of 12-29.
