The Demopolis Tigers boys golf team shot a 322 on Monday to earn a third-place finish at sectionals and a spot in the sub-state tournament next week.
Anna Reid, the only girl on the DHS golf team, also advanced to sub-state by playing as an individual in the girls sectional Monday. She shot an 87, which was good for fourth-best of the individuals in the match.
“The sectionals featured some of the best teams in the south, and they were stronger than any teams we have played all year,” head coach Mike Black said.
Braden Spiller was the low scorer for Demopolis with a 77, followed by Sam Yeager with a 79, Blake Bryant with an 82 and Jordan Williams with an 84.
Both the boys team and Reid will play in the sub-state match Monday, May 5 at the Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery.
“I believe the boys and Anna will advance to state if they play their best golf and play within themselves,” Black said. “We’ll see come Monday if we can break that state bracket that has eluded us for the past two years.”
