The Marengo County Auburn Club will hold its fifth annual annual banquet at the Demopolis Country Club on Tuesday, May 6 at 6 p.m.
Tickets for the banquet are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the Robertson Banking Company main office in Demopolis, Holiday Cleaners or Papa’s Foods. Marengo County Auburn Club board members Sean Parker, Jason Windham, Katie Windham and Patricia Quinney also have tickets available.
Over the last year, the club was able to raise enough money to meet its five-year scholarship goal of $12,500, which allows the club to give out a $500 scholarship to a local student.
The recipient of the first Marengo County Auburn Club/Sonny Parker Scholarship is Charlie Parten, a senior at Demopolis High School. Parten also received the Spirit of Auburn Scholarship, the Auburn University Board of Trustees Scholarship, the Dixie PIMA Pulp and Paper Scholarship for Engineering.
The guest speaker at this year’s banquet will be J.B. Grimes, Auburn’s offensive line coach. Grimes is entering his second season with the Tigers in 2014.
He has been coaching at the collegiate level for more than 30 years with stops at Arkansas State (2012), Kansas (2010-11) and Mississippi State (2004-08) as the offensive line coach. He has also been an assistant coach at East Carolina (2003), Texas A&M (1998-2002), Virginia Tech (1993-97), Arkansas (1989-92), Louisiana-Monroe (1979-80; 1985-88), Missouri (1984) and Delta State (1983).
