Demopolis BOE to possibly hire new special education personnel

The Demopolis Board of Education held a called meeting Monday morning to approve personnel recommendations by Superintendent Dr. Al Griffin.
The board approved giving Griffin tentative approval to hire personnel possibly required at Demopolis Middle School to meet the needs of students in order to comply with state and federal laws.
Alex Braswell, who serves as the board’s legal counsel, said the board received a tentative alert last week that there could be two special education students moving into town before the end of the school year, and a new teacher or teacher’s aide would be required at DMS.
“We have to facilitate them under law,” Braswell said. “They’re possibly moving here from out of state, and Dr. Griffin needs to be able to hire somebody immediately if the students do come here.”
Griffin said a teacher’s aide would most likely be hired, but it depends on the qualifications of the applicants.
