Tigers split double header in Wetumpka

Demopolis High School’s baseball team (9-10, 2-0) split a double header Thursday night in Wetumpka.
The Tigers defeated Holtville High School 14-4 in six innings in the first game and fell to Wetumpka 13-3 in six innings in the second game.
Tripp Perry earned the win on the mound in the game against Holtville, pitching four innings while giving up five hits and four runs. He struck out four batters in the game as well. Michael Brooker came in to finish the game and pitched two innings, giving up no hits and striking out five batters.
Offensively, Tyler Oates went 3-for-4 at the plate with two singles, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. John Anthony Morrison also went 3-for-4, racking up two singles and a double with three RBIs. Brooker went 2-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored and Matt Eicher went 2-for-5 with a single, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Also with RBIs in the game were Jacob Rodrigues and Wil Stephens with one each and Ryan Schroeder with two.
In the second game of the day against Wetumpka, the Tigers were held to just three hits in the game. Oates was 1-for-2 with a single, a walk and a RBI. Stephen Stewart was 1-for-1 with a single. He was also hit by a pitch and scored two runs. Schroeder had the other hit for Demopolis as he went 1-for-2 at the plate with a single and a run scored. Seth Aiken went 0-for-2 at the plate, but walked once, stole a base and had a RBI.
Luke Yelverton started the game against Wetumpka, but only pitched two-thirds of an inning. He gave up five hits and five runs in the start.
The Tigers were schedule to face Stanhope Elmore on Friday morning, but the game was rained out. They will host Greenville on Tuesday, April 1 for their next contest.
