The Montgomery Ballet will perform Swan Lake in Demopolis on Sunday, April 6 at 3 p.m. at the Demopolis High School auditorium.
The Two Rivers Arts Council is hosting the event, and TRAC president Morgan Allen said certain scenes from the ballet will be performed.
“They will be performing scenes from Act Two as well as scenes from the gala they did in Montgomery,” Allen said.
Swan Lake is a ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875-1876. The scenario, initially in four acts, was fashioned from Russian folk tales and tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse.
She added that Montgomery Ballet came to Demopolis to perform The Nutcracker two years ago, and Beverly Youngblood helped bring them back this year.
“The turnout and enthusiasm from the community was so good for The Nutcracker that we wanted them to come back,” Allen said. “Beverly helped set it up again this year for us.”
There will be no presale tickets and tickets will be available at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for children. TRAC members get in free.
TRAC membership postcards can be picked up at the library, and the cost of membership is $30 for one season ticket or $60 for a couple. To become a donor, the minimum annual donation is $100, and there are six levels for donors, each receiving a certain number of season tickets. Anyone with questions about joining can contact Allen at the library at (334) 289-1595.
