All Marengo County roads have been closed Tuesday night.
The Marengo County Sheriff’s Office advises drivers to stay off roads due to icy conditions.
County and state roads have begun to ice over, according to the sheriff’s office, and will likely worsen as the night goes on and temperatures continue to drop.
Travel is recommended only in cases of emergency. State and sheriff’s office officials are on patrol helping drivers and assessing changing road conditions.
“Please be safe,” said Marengo County Sheriff Ben Bates.
All local schools are closed Wednesday, including Demopolis, Linden and Marengo County systems as well as Marengo Academy. The University of West Alabama and Shelton State Community College will be closed as well.
The Marengo County Courthouse and most other government office will remain closed Wednesday as well as many local businesses.
