A group of five former college swim team roommates will gather for several reunions in the Canebrake Players’ next production, “The Dixie Swim Club.”

Auditions for the all-female cast will be held Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Old School on Main Avenue.

There are only five characters in the play, all over the age of 30.

“There are five characters in the show, and they’re all very different,” director Johnny Johnston said. “The play opens at a reunion when the characters are in their 40s and the final reunion is when they’re in their late 70s. It’s a funny play and a poignant play at different times.”

The production will be April 4-7, and Johnston said rehearsals will start out three nights a week.

“As the show gets closer, we might move to four nights a week depending on how everything is looking,” he said.

Johnston said he had seen the play before in Tuscaloosa and felt like it would be fun to direct. He added that he has a good idea of the direction he wants to go with it once the cast is in place.
