From Thanksgiving through New Years, the Demopolis Police Department’s crime statistics were a little bit higher than normal, according to DPD Chief Tommie Reese.

Reese said in the period from Nov. 28 through Jan. 1, there were five DUIs, three thefts, 26 accidents and one injury in Demopolis.

“December is our biggest month as far as people on the road, so our numbers are a little higher,” Reese said.

He added that the intention of the department is to be more visible to help prevent crime.

“Going forward, our intention is to be more visible to help ensure that the motoring public is safe on the roads, and that people are safe to conduct business without worrying about crime,” Reese said. “We want to be proactive to help prevent crime and to be reactive when we need to be.”
