Santa Claus made the first of a few stops in Demopolis this week Monday night at Demopolis Public Library.
Santa arrived at the library on a Demopolis Fire and Rescue truck to meet a group of children and parents gathered to see him.
Children were able to tell Santa what they want for Christmas this year and have their picture taken with him. Cookies and punch were also available for the children to enjoy after meeting with Santa.
“We had a great response last year, and we feel like this is a good way to kick off Christmas on the River,” DPL Director Morgan Allen said. “It’s a great way to bring people into the library that may not normally come, and we hope the children will associate the library with fun things and will want to come back.”
Allen said there were approximately 50 children that came last year for the event, but she hoped to surpass that mark this year.
“We’re hoping to have at least 100 children this year,” she said. “A lot of people can’t drive to Tuscaloosa or Meridian to see him, so this gives them an opportunity closer to home.”
Santa will also be at the Lighting of the Public Square in downtown Demopolis on Thursday night as well as at Bluff Hall on Friday night from 5:30-8 p.m. for Christmas in the Canebrake. He will also be in the Christmas on the River parades on Saturday.
