The Marengo Academy Longhorns will travel to Troy University on Friday for the AISA Class A Championship Game.
The Longhorns (12-0, 6-0) defeated Chambers Academy and Abbeville Christian in the playoffs to get to the championship game, and they will face Restoration Academy, the defending Class A champions, at noon Friday.
“I’m excited for our players to get the opportunity to play for a championship,” Marengo Academy head coach Robby James said. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for some of these guys, and I’m proud of them for making it to this point and happy for them to have this experience.”
Marengo Academy has yet to be truly tested all season, with their closest win coming back on Sept. 27 against Wilcox Academy in a 28-6 victory. The Longhorns have breezed through the playoffs so far, defeating Chambers Academy 51-14 and Abbeville Christian 44-13.
For the first time in the playoffs, both Linden and Sweet Water will be on the road this Friday night.
The Patriots (9-3, 7-0) will travel to Maplesville to take on the Red Devils (12-0, 7-0).
For Linden, this will likely be the toughest Class 1A test they have faced all season. Maplesville’s closest victory came in a four-point win over Class 2A opponent Sweet Water. Apart from that game, the Red Devils have been able to win with ease.
For Sweet Water (9-3, 7-0), they will travel to Luverne to take on the Tigers (11-1, 7-0). Luverne’s only loss of the season came on the road at Class 5A Saraland in week 10 – a game they only lost 21-13.
