Demopolis High School is one of about 3,500 high schools across the country with a chance at $100,000 if members of the community pledge to drive safely.
Celebrate My Drive, a safe driving campaign through State Farm, will give 10 schools nationwide a $100,000 grant, 90 schools a $25,000 grant and two schools will win the grand prize, which is a Kelly Clarkson concert.
The program launches Friday, Oct. 18 and goes through Saturday, Oct. 26. Students and members of the community are asked to go to www.celebratemydrive.com and fill out a safe driving pledge in support of DHS.
“Anyone who is over the age of 14 can fill out a pledge,” Kelly Gandy, who is overseeing the program for DHS, said. “People can vote once per day, every day, until the contest is over.”
The contest divides schools into two different categories: one for schools with more than 750 students, and one for schools with fewer than 750 students.
School representatives will have access points at Friday night’s Homecoming game against Satsuma, as well as next Thursday night’s game against Jackson. People can stop by the access points and fill out a safe driving pledge while at the game.
