Demopolis and Sweet Water faced off on a hot and humid Tuesday evening in middle school action.
Demopolis opened the scoring on a 24-yard pass play from Andrew Patterson to Xavier Jowers, and Demetrius Davis added the two-point conversion.
Following a fumble by the Bulldogs, Patterson and Jowers connected again on a 33-yard pass play for a touchdown, and Derrick Birl converted the two-point conversion to move the score to 16-0.
Sweet Water answered by driving the ball 70 yards for a touchdown, but came up short on the conversion leaving the score at 16-6.
On the Tigers’ next drive, they moved the ball across mid-field to lose a fumble at the Bulldog 45 yard line. Sweet Water would move the ball inside the DMS 10-yard line as time expired.
DMS opened the second half scoring on the first play from scrimmage with AJ Jackson’s 70-yard scamper to the endzone. Demetrius Davis converted the two-point conversion to move the score to 24-6.
DMS was able to force a punt on Sweet Water’s next drive, and Patterson ended all scoring on a 30-yard run up the left sideline. Derrick Birl would convert the two-point conversion to give the Tigers a 32-6 win.
“I am proud of how the guys came out and fought through the heat,” Demopolis head coach Jeremy Silcox said. “Our kids did a good job of using our adjustments in the second half. Sweet Water is a hard-nosed, well-coached team, and they fight hard.”
Patterson finished the game 2-2 passing for 57 yards and two touchdowns, and Jowers had two catches for 57 yards and two touchdowns. On the fround, Jackson had two carries for 96 yards and a touchdown, and Patterson had one carry for 30 yards and a touchdown.
