Two Demopolis High School football players committed to Division-1 schools this past week.
Safety Demetrius Kemp, after visiting the school Saturday, committed to the University of Southern Mississippi.
“The coaching staff at Southern Miss is great,” Kemp said. “I went and spent time with the staff and guys that have already committed. We played a few games, ate and I was able to get more familiar with the program.”
Kemp also had offers from Georgia Tech, Appalachian State, Memphis, Mercer, Northern Illinois, Furman, Citadel, Troy, South Alabama and Middle Tennessee State.
Demopolis receiver Cortez Lewis committed to Northern Illinois University late last week, and said the coaching staff at NIU made the difference for him.
“I always want to be somewhere that I feel wanted,” Lewis said. “Their coaching staff makes you feel like part of a family, and they made me feel welcome.”
Lewis also had offers from Georgia Southern, Furman, Citadel, Alabama State and South Alabama.
Defensive end Tyler Merriweather already committed to Georgia Tech earlier in the summer, giving Demopolis three Division-1 commitments in this year’s senior class.
