Several Marengo County golfers competed in the ALAGA Syrup Pancake Classic on July 2-3 at Arrowhead Country Club in Montgomery.
In the girls 15-18 age division, Demopolis High School’s Anna Reid finished second overall, shooting a 170 in the two-day, 36-hole tournament.
Reid was the only girl to play for the DHS golf team in 2013, and she was a top competitor for the team throughout the season. She shot an 82 in the sub-state tournament, coming up just short of advancing to state.
In the boys 14-18 age division, Demopolis High’s Braden Spiller came in third overall, shooting a 151 for the tournament.
Spiller helped lead the Tigers to a 28-0 regular season record. The DHS boys also fell short of the state tournament at sub-state, but look to make a run again next season.
Marengo Academy’s Hutson Breckenridge earned a second-place finish in the boys 13-under division, finishing with a 165 overall.
Breckenridge was the only Marengo Academy golfer to qualify for the AISA state tournament, doing so as a seventh-grader.
