For each holiday honoring the United States of America and those who have served the nation, the Demopolis Kiwanis Club places American flags along Highway 80 and in downtown Demopolis.
The flags give the city a patriotic look for holidays such as Independence Day, Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day and President’s Day. Kiwanis members have volunteered to place the flags along the highway for approximately eight years.
Club president Craig Schumacher said it’s means a lot for the club and the community for the flags to be put up around town.
“It’s extremely important to show our appreciation for the veterans and what they’ve done,” he said. “When I see the flags up, it gives me a sense of pride for the community that we can do the extra things to recognize the sacrifices of the veterans.”
