Throughout the day Thursday, there will be several events around Demopolis for Freedom on the River.
A local barbecue cook-off will be an all-day event at the City Landing. Anyone interested can call the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce at (334) 289-0270 or David Anderson to enter the cook-off.
The Children’s Patriotic Parade registration will be at the Demopolis Civic Center at 6 p.m. with the parade beginning at 6:30 p.m. The parade will run from the Civic Center to the City Landing.
Beginning at 7 p.m., there will be live music by Heart Attack at the City Landing. They play a wide range of music including country, rock and folk. Note the start time is later than originally planned.
The Freedom Fireworks Extravaganza will begin at 8:45 p.m.
Jenn Tate, executive director of the Chamber, said the show would go on, rain or shine.
“If it’s raining, we’re still going to try to shoot them,” she said. “We can’t reschedule, so we’re going to try to shoot them either way.”
She said all of the events are scheduled to go on regardless of the weather.
“The food vendors will be out, and there will be children’s activities in the afternoon as well,” she said. “We’re hoping the rain holds off so everyone can have a good time as planned, but we’re really at the mercy of Mother Nature.”
