Art, financial classes to be offered at Demopolis Higher Ed Center

The University of West Alabama’s department of continuing education, located at the Demopolis Higher Education Center, has planned several art and life skill classes for the summer.

Classes are set to begin in mid-July and range from $25.00 to $80.00 depending on the type of class and the supplies needed for the class.

Tuesday evening, July 16, 2013, Kirk Brooker will teach a one-session class in acrylic painting. The class will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and will accommodate beginning to experienced painters. The cost of the class is $25.

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings, July 23 and 25, Melanie Grace, CPA, will teach a financial literacy class called “Feeding the Pig.” This class is designed especially for young people who will be going out on their own and learning to survive. She will touch on subjects such as budgeting, balancing a checkbook and avoiding credit card debt. The class will be from 6:30-8 both evenings. Prior registration should be completely by July 18. The cost of the class is $80.

On August 27, Kirk Brooker will begin a six-week class in acrylic painting. The class will be taught on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30. The class will be taught in an individualized manner and will accommodate students with varying levels of experience. The cost of the class is $80.

On September 9, Vanessa Mills will begin a six-week class in beginners sewing. Students will need to bring their own sewing machines to class. Those interested should be registered by Sept. 3. The cost of the class is $80 plus the fabric cost for some of the projects.
