As the Independence Day holiday approaches, the Demopolis Police Department would like to remind citizens of the laws in place regarding fireworks inside city limits.
In order to sell any fireworks allowed by the state of Alabama, a permit from the state fire marshal, a business license and a permit from the city is required for each stand, trailer or facility in which fireworks are being sold.
The city has also placed time restrictions on the sale and discharging of fireworks in the city limits.
Beginning June 20 and ending July 10, fireworks may be sold between 8 a.m. and midnight. Fireworks may be discharged between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m., and not between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
Any individual, firm, partnership or corporation that violates these laws would be charged with a class A misdemeanor, and upon conviction, would be subject to a fine ranging from $100 to $500, or 30 days in jail, or both, at the discretion of the court.
