A basketball tournament to benefit Demopolis police officer Paul Foster will be held at the Theo Ratliff Center on Saturday, June 1 at 2 p.m.
Foster is undergoing chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and Demopolis Fire and Rescue, the Demopolis Police Department and Alabama Power will have teams at the tournament to help raise money for him.
Firefighter Maurice James said they are trying to do what they can to help out.
“We try to help each other out,” James said. “When someone in the community needs help, we want to try to do what we can to help out.”
Each team in the tournament is donating $50 for entry, and the public will be able to donate at the Theo Ratliff Center during the tournament.
James said there will also be a half-court shot contest in which contestants will donate $1 per shot.
“We’re just asking people to come out and support a member of the community while having a good time,” James said.
