Lady Longhorns advance to semifinals

The Marengo Academy Lady Longhorns have made it to the AISA Class A softball semifinals.
In the second round of the tournament, the Lady Longhorns defeated Ashford Academy 11-0 in five innings.
Marengo Academy jumped out to an early lead after Chandler Stenz scored on a RBI by Katie Tucker and Tucker scored on a Brooke Smyly RBI.
The Lady Longhorns had a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
In the third inning, MA added six more runs to make the score 8-0, and they added their final three runs in the fourth.
Andrea Edmonds pitched all 12 innings on Friday.
The Lady Longhorns will play Lakeside at 10 a.m. at Lagoon Park in Montgomery on Saturday morning.
If they win that game, they will be in the state championship game, which will be played at 2 p.m.
“We have to keep swinging the bat well,” Stenz said. “Lakeside has a really good pitcher.”
Marengo Academy, in their first season in Class A after moving down from Class AA are going for their fourth consecutive state championship.
“You can see our experience paying off on the field,” Stenz said. “All of our players have either started or played in this tournament before.”
