After finishing on a winning note at 28-0 in the regular season, the Demopolis High School golf team entered the sectionals on a high note.
Anna Reid competed in the girls sectional play in Mobile and came out with a trip to sub-state. She was one of four singles who managed to go to the next level out of 80 other girls and will be playing in the sub-state at Timber Creek Golf Club in Mobile. Reid will try to advance to state on Monday, May 6.
The DHS boys golf went in another direction Monday and traveled to Calera to Timber Line Golf Course and competed in the 5A Sectionals. The boys also came away winners as they took 3rd place in the match and will compete in the sub-state at Mobile also at Timber Creek Golf Club.
The boys team were bested by Homewood High School and Briarwood High Schools out of Birmingham, but head coach Jerry Black said the boys played a good match.
The Tigers were led by Braden Spiller, who shot a 78. Jordan Williams shot a 79, Blake Bryant shot an 81, Sam Yeager shot an 82 and Payne Hasty shot 85.
The course was very wet and the scores were a little high for all the schools that participated in the sectional after an all Sunday and Sunday night rain.
The Tigers, who played in a practice round last Tuesday, shot a 299, but the course was the difference as the Tigers shot a 320 in the tournament.
Black said the team knows they will face tougher competition at sub-state in Mobile, and that they will have to play their best golf to advance to state.
