UWA tennis downs Stillman

TUSCALOOSA – The West Alabama tennis teams swept the Stillman Tigers in every match but one on Wednesday. Men’s Tennis won every match to finish 9-0, while the women finished 8-1.
Both UWA men’s and women’s tennis improve to 2-1 overall. The Stillman men’s team falls to 1-2, while the women pick their first loss and fall to 3-1.
Junior’s Nestor Vargas and Simon Bardell had a thrilling 9-8 four set finish against Stillman’s Janguen Lee and Mandoza in the No. 1 men’s doubles match.
In women’s No. 1 doubles Helga Jeske and Natalia Cardenas defeated Whitney Hornor and Rosana Mederios 8-0 in one set. Jill Furlong and Joyanne Carroll suffered the only match loss for the UWA Tigers on the day to Nair Tolomeo and Angela Corredor 8-5.
Both the men’s and women’s teams swept the Stillman Tigers in all 12 of the singles matches.
Both Stillman teams will remain at home to take on Tuskegee University on Feb. 16. Both UWA teams will return home to host Gulf South Conference opponent Shorter University at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
