The Demopolis Board of Education met Friday morning to name a fill-in for one of Demopolis High School’s science teachers, Keith Jackson. Jackson received a grant from the state to go on an administrative internship for the second semester of this school year.
The board hired Jarret J. Williamson to fill in for the rest of the school year for Jackson’s anatomy classes. Williamson will start as a full-time teacher on Wednesday, Jan. 9, and he will shadow Jackson on Monday and Tuesday.
The grant gave the school system $25,000 to hire a highly qualified teacher to fill in for the open position.
Jackson’s home school during his administrative internship will be Westside Elementary School, where he will shadow the principal and other administrators all day, every day for the rest of the school year.
During the board meeting, Superintendent Al Griffin said he wants Jackson to focus on school safety during his internship.
