Tiana Rivas, of Demopolis, has used her passion for painting to aid a family member diagnosed with stage 4 leukemia.
Rivas painted a headshot portrait of University of Alabama’s starting quarterback A.J. McCarron she plans to raffle on Dec. 1 during Christmas on the River events.
Rivas is a student at the University and through, a mutual friend she was able to connect with McCarron to get the photograph signed for the raffle.
“I think its great these football players are using their fame to help others,” Tiana said. “It is a good opportunity to help this family.”
Rivas started painting when she was only 5 years old, from then, she has learned a lot from her mother Tina Pope, who also is an artist and works at GreenCare in Demopolis.
Pope is the cousin of David Farquharson, the family member the raffle seeks to help. Farquharson is the father of six children, whose youngest is only about 4 to 6 months old.
“The latest news the family received is that he was not responding to his medicine and really right now they are praying for a miracle,” Pope said.
The proceeds from the raffle will go to aid with medical expenses for the family. The tickets are $5 and can be purchased at GreenCare in Demopolis.
