Demopolis, Sweet Water and Bibb County participated in a volleyball tri-match Tuesday evening.
Bibb County and Demopolis faced off in the first match, and Bibb County won. Bibb County then faced Sweet Water in the second match, and Bibb County won that match as well, finishing 2-0 on the night.
Demopolis and Sweet Water faced off in the third and final match of the night, and Sweet Water had control during the whole contest.
The first set of the best-of-three went to the Bulldogs by a score of 25-14. In the second set, Demopolis fell into a big hole early and was not able to climb out of it. At one point the Lady Tigers were down 22-6, but were able to string some points together before Sweet Water was able to finish it off, winning the set 25-12.
Demopolis head coach Blythe Smith said her team’s lack of success this season is more mental than their ability to play the game.
“This was a mental defeat,” she said. “They know what to do, they just can’t make it work on the court. Once we get down, we shut down. We have the fundamentals down and on paper we should be winning these games, but our mentality and attitude hurt us.”
She added that she knows the girls are tired of losing and they are frustrated.
“We need to work on our mindset that every game is a new game,” she said.
The Tigers play host to Greenville in a make-up match Wednesday night at 5 p.m.
