John Essex (2-1) travels to Mobile to take on St. Luke’s (1-2) on Friday night. The Hornets are coming off of a 34-14 win over Marengo High School last week.

“Last week’s game was very important for us,” Hornets head coach Jerome Antone said. “It gives us confidence heading into a big road game.”

Antone said St. Luke’s started out a few years ago with a lot of freshmen on their team, but now those players are juniors and seniors with a lot of experience.

“Their guys are mature and they are a good ball club,” he said. “We have to play smart so we can come out with a victory. We have to go down there and play our game.”

St. Luke’s is coming off of a 34-14 loss to Linden last week.
