Demopolis native, Mickey Andrew Simmons, 52, lost his life on Sept. 3 during a drive-by shooting when trying to protect a child at a post-wedding cookout in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Simmons attended a family member’s wedding in Nashville and the family convened in Murfreesboro for a gathering where the drive by occurred. The drive-by is still under investigation by Murfreesboro police.

Simmons’ funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Smalls Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Jefferson, Ala. Larkin and Scott will handle the funeral arrangements.
