The Marengo County Commission hired sheriff deputy Chris McInnis during its regular meeting Tuesday.
McInnis comes to the county from the Demopolis Police Department. He started July 25, though official hiring took place at this meeting.
The commission also gave a letter of support to the Demopolis Historical Commission, who seeks to enlarge the Demopolis Historic District on the national register.
From there, the local preservation group will seek further approval from the state. Brian Brooker presented a map to the commission to illustrate the proposed changes.
There is a public hearing to discuss a community development block grant that the commission is applying for through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). The meeting will be held Friday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. in the commission chambers.
