Marion David “M.D.” Baines

Marion David “M.D.” Baines, 87, peacefully passed away May 14 at his home in St. Cloud, Fla. He was born and raised in Gordo, Ala. and a longtime resident of Greensboro.
Mr. Baines was a distinguished veteran of two wars (WWII and Korea) and Bronze Star Medal recipient for exemplary conduct in ground combat against the armed enemy on May 1, 1945 in the Pacific Theatre of Operation.
Mr. Baines was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Hollingsworth Baines; his second wife, Elizabeth Burns Baines and her daughter, Ruthie Coley; siblings, Edna Pinson, Jack Baines, Fleda Carlisle and Tom Baines; granddaughter, Loryn Brown.
M.D. greatly enjoyed life, friends, travel, hunting, fishing and, most of all, his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Helen Poole Baines; daughters, Rhonda Elliot (Charles), their two daughter, Katrina Elliot, Amanda Hebert (Bruce), their son, Elliot Hebert; Gayle Heiden (Rick), their two sons, Richard Heiden, Jordan Heiden; sisters, Gay Dunlap, Martha Larson (Don); Helen’s two sons, Lawrence Phillips (Kay), his three children, Mike Phillips (Susan), their children, Sutter Phillips, Grace Ann Phillips; Leigh Anne Sharp (John), their son, Thomas Sharp; Paul Phillips; Keith Phillips (Donna), their children, John Phillips, Carla Phillips, James Phillips; Elizabeth Burns’ children, Leon Burns, Wayne Burns (Miriam), their three children, Callie Ash (Mike), their children, Sarah Ash, Mike Ash; Cindi Hughs (Mike), their children, Jessica Hughs, Lindsey Hughs, Trevor Hughs; Michael Burns (Leslin); Ann Brown (Jerry), their three children, Stephanie Richey (Jimmy), their children, Chad Richey, Eli Richey, John Michael Richey Steven Brown (Kelley), their children, Bradley Brown, Barrett Brown, Shanon Brown (Michelle), their children, Colin Brown and Anna Katherine Brown.
Services were held May 17 at the Greensboro Baptist. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Doug McGuire officiated.
