A Demopolis man was arrested Monday night in connection to a weekend hit and run accident that left an Indiana man dead.

Marvin Bishop Martin, 40, of Fitzhugh Lane in Demopolis was found by DPD investigators in Butler at approximately 7 p.m. Monday night. He was charged with manslaughter, Leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Edward Woods, of Gary, Ind., was killed in the early morning hours Dec. 3 as he walked across U.S. Highway 80 near the Red Carpet Inn.

Woods was in town attending a funeral and Reese said was killed only hours after his arrival.

Demopolis Chief of Police Tommie Reese praised his Criminal Investigation Division and the entire Demopolis Police Department for the hard work and quick investigation in this case.

“When we started this investigation all we had was a victim, but now we have hopefully brought some closure to the Woods Family and the community,” he said.
