Willodean Lawley Gainer

Willodean Lawley Gainer, 82, of Demopolis died Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

Born July 31, 1929 in Bibb County to the late Casper Lee and Allie Smith Lawley, she was preceded in death by her parents, sons Jimmy Goggins and Patrick Wayne Goggins, five sisters, three brothers and four other siblings who died during infancy or early childhood.

She is survived by her husband, Loren Langley Gainer of Demopolis, daughters Carol Dean Assef of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Wanda (Joe) Ulmer of Demopolis, grandchildren David Assef, Zena Nipper, Joseph Edward Ulmer and Valarie Kae Ulmer as well as her great grandchild, Lena June Nipper.

Active Pallbearers included Henry Baxley, Earl Flowers, George Franks, John Malone, Andy Morgan and Ottis Ratliff.

Honorary Pallbearers include the Bettie Lipscomb Sunday School Class and the Ulmer Tucker Sunday Schools Class.

Funeral services were Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Demopolis. Burial followed in Demopolis Memorial Gardens. Rev. Carl Williams officiated and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directed.

The family welcomes flowers, but if one wishes to send a memorial, the family has requested the First Baptist Church in Demopolis, care of Operation Christmas Child, sponsored by the Samaritan’s Purse or the charity of one’s choice.
