At least three people were killed Saturday night in a plane crash in Marengo County. Officials confirmed that a plane crashed in the county at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday but would not confirm the number of fatalities.
Marengo County Sheriff Ben Bates said Sunday that no survivors had been located.
Officials originally determined the crash site to be in Sumter County but this afternoon determined it was actually inside the Marengo County line. The site is approximately 10 miles west of Demopolis – one mile north of the Demopolis Municipal Airport – and only accessible on-foot or via All Terrain Vehicle (ATV).
The crash occurred near the Belmont community. Officials would not release the type of aircraft but witnesses described it as “a small plane.”
Search and recovery efforts have been ongoing since last night and continue today.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
