DHS Tiger soccer splits

The DHS soccer team split its Saturday double-header as part of a round robin matchup in the first Demopolis High School Tournament.
The Tigers (7-5) opened the day with a 5-0 win over Wetumpka.
Demopolis’ senior Tyler Howerton started the scoring after an assist from eighth-grader Austin Brooks.
Jacob Roemen then connected on his first of three goals on the day off a helper from fellow senior Cameron Fendley.
Brooks got charitable again with his team up 2-0, this time passing off to Roemen to set up the senior’s second goal of the contest.
Roemen scored his final goal with an assist from senior Jarvis Lawson.
With Demopolis leading 4-0, Lawson added an unassisted effort of his own to cap off the scoring.
Demopolis took 14 shots on goal in the game, allowing only one in the process.
The Tigers later took on Theodore in the final match of the day, losing 5-2 after trailing 2-1 at half.
“The first half, we won 90 percent of the balls,” Demopolis head coach Peter Keen said.
“The second half, they scored 90 percent of the balls.”
Roemen added two more goals to his Saturday tally in the contest, getting assists from Brooks and junior Spence Overstreet.
Demopolis will return to action Tuesday, March 22 when it hosts region foe Central-Tuscaloosa in a double-header.
