The Alabama Department of Transportation will hold a meeting in Linden next month to update the public on the status of expanding Highway 43 through Marengo and Clarke counties.
The project would add two traffic lanes from State Route 5 in Thomasville to Highway 80 in Demopolis.
The proposed construction is actually broken into two projects: from Thomasville to just south of Linden – Project: NHF-0013(566) – and from Linden to Demopolis – Project: NHF-0013(565).
The meetings will be come and go and provide the public an opportunity to ask questions about the construction and environmental concerns along the route.
“Both projects require additional Right-of-Way,” said Dorothy Coats Waters, of the Alabama Department of Transportation Eighth Division. “Representatives of the Alabama Department of Transportation will be present to discuss these proposed projects to include right of way acquisition and other technical aspects.”
Waters said engineers would be available to answer questions and would also be armed with environmental maps so any affected residents along the route can see what impact two additonal lanes to Highway 43 may have to their property.
“Provisions will be made to receive written comments at the meetings,” she said. “The purpose is to provide an opportunity for interested persons to be informed and participate in the public process of these projects. Preliminary maps as well as other information developed on these projects are available for public inspection during the meetings.”
The meeting for the Marengo County portion of the project will be held at the County Courthouse in Linden Tuesday, March 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
A similar meeting for the Clarke County portion will be held at Alabama Southern Community College in Thomasville the day before at the same time.
