Vernon A. Moore Sr., age 91, of Demopolis passed away on July 31, 2010, at Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home of Demopolis.
He was born on Oct. 3, 1918, in Cuba, Ala., to David Alexander and Willie Lee McMillan Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David Moore Jr., and his sister, Dorothy Moore Smitherman.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Emma Smith Moore of Demopolis; a son, Vernon A. (Allison) Moore Jr. of Tuscaloosa; a sister, Frances (Paul) Rowe of Faulkville; two brothers, Hawkins (Patsy) Moore and Gordon (Mary Beth) Moore, both of Demopolis; and a grandchild, Sydney (David) Moore.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel with the Rev. Richard Scott officiating. Burial followed in Demopolis Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the chapel on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directed the services.
Pallbearers were Richard Bedsole, Mark Bedsole, Mark Carroll, Jason Hunt, Richard Walker and Jeff Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Westside Baptist Church, De. Paul Ketcham and his staff, Dr. Keith Dismukes and his staff, Dr. Ronnie Chu and his staff, Southern Care Hospice, the Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home staff and Cemex.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Demopolis Memorial Gardens.
