The Jones Recreation Center on 1st Avenue across from the Theo Ratliff Activity Center is more than just the site of the city swimming pool.
During the summer, Emma Gibbs and her helpers provide arts and crafts classes for ages 6 to 13.
The eight-week program will run through July 23, and the students have enjoyed being creative, doing everything from making name bracelets to quilting to painting model cars.
“I’ve been doing this program for 40 years,” said Gibbs. “This gives them something to do during the summer, where you don’t have to worry about them getting hurt or getting into trouble. They all enjoy it!”
Part of the arts and crafts crew at the Jones Recreation Center are T.J. Gilmore, Dinesha Martin, Terryl Ratliff, Josh Rowser, Della Seabron, Mary Sewell and Andrea Williams.
