After 10 years of negotiating and filling out applications, the Federal Communications Commission has given Miles College the green light to build a radio station in Demopolis.
On Monday, on the campus of Miles College in Fairfield, academic dean Dr. Kenneth Jones and Demopolis mayor Mike Grayson made the announcement at a press conference.
The radio station will be named WMWI and will be aired on 88.7 FM. The programming format for WMWI will be diverse, including all genres of music from hip-hop to gospel. The station will also include talk radio programs that will promote Miles College as well as service the Demopolis community.
Due to the unavailability of frequencies in the Birming-ham designated market area, Miles College went with an available frequency in Demopolis. Through Internet links and signal relays, WMWI programming will be made available not only for those living in Demopolis, but in the Fairfield community as well.
