David Kenneth “Dave” Nelson, age 61, of Forkland died on Friday, March 27, 2009, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.
A native of Haleyville, he retired after 35 years as a wildlife biologist for the State of Alabama with the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, at 11 a.m. at the Kidd-Robbins Chapel with David Murray and Lowell Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at the Forkland United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends on Monday, March 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Home. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis is directing the services.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Connie Nelson of Forkland; two sons, Colter (Jennifer) Nelson of Fosters and Carson Nelson of Starkville, Miss.; one brother, Dan (Gwen) Nelson of Haleyville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Billy Griffin, Steve May, Steve Sims, Tony Burgette, Sony Wakfield, Tony Bishop, Ricky Perkins and Chris Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Foy Wright, Dr. Earl Walker, George Ballard and Johnny Pelt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Forkland United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 125, Forkland, AL 36740, or to the Alabama Wildlife Federation, 3050 Lanark Road, Millbrook, AL 36054.
