There is no question that football and baseball hold a special place on the Marengo County sports landscape. However, tonight, an oft overlooked sport takes the spotlight as Demopolis High and Marengo Academy hold their respective senior night festivities. While baseball and football get all the run possible in local media coverage and conversation, the young men and women who make up the area basketball teams work just as hard and often play their games out in front of smaller crowds.

Sadly enough, for many of the county’s athletes, this evening will be the last time they put on the school colors in front of the home crowd.

So tonight, hit the record button on American Idol or Grey’s Anatomy or whatever airs on Thursdays and head out to a local basketball game to give these young people an appreciative and memorable send-off.
