Times returning to twice weekly print edition

The Demopolis Times will return to a two-day per week publication schedule beginning Wed-nesday, Feb. 4.
The Times will publish a print edition on Wednesday and Sunday, while its companion Web site, www.demopolistimes.com, will be updated and published daily.
“When Tiffany and I arrived in Demopolis in June, we asked readers and advertisers what they would like to see most from their newspaper,” Times publisher Jason Cannon said.
“The No. 1 request, without question, was for the Times to be a twice-weekly newspaper again.”
The twice-weekly publication is familiar territory. The Demopolis Times expanded from two to five days per week in 2003.
“The decision to offer an additional three newspapers per week was made with community service in mind, along with the intent to offer breaking news as soon as possible to our readers and advertisers,” Cannon said. “We’re still committed to provide that, but through a combination of our Web site and print editions.
“The Web site links us and our community to the Internet and other digital feeds, providing instant and excellent alternatives for those we serve who want local and other daily news.”
The shift to a twice-weekly publication will allow the Times to increase its coverage of local news, news features and sports.
Current paid subscribers to the Times will have their pre-paid subscription extended to make up for the daily issues that have been eliminated.
Annual subscription rates will be reduced to $52 for in-county, home delivery customers.
The final publication under the five-day cycle will be Saturday, Jan. 31.
