Former Linden city councilman William Curry was appointed to the city’s Industrial Development Board.
Mayor Mitzi Gates announced his nomination on Tuesday at the Linden City Council meeting.
“Charles Ballas had resigned his spot on the board,” Gates told the city council members. “William Curry will make an excellent addition to the industrial development board.
Curry has served two full terms and part of a third as a city councilman in Linden. Gates said he had also worked at Georgia-Pacific.
“He is very familiar with both the industrial and community challenges that affect Linden,” said Gates.
Last fall, Richard Lankster defeated Curry for the District 3 council seat.
“He’s an outstanding choice,” said councilman Dennis Breckenridge, who made the motion to appoint Curry. Jan Cannon seconded that motion, which passed with a unanimous vote.
The Linden Industrial Board meets the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.
Other IDB members include Dr. Walter Davis, Scott Collier, John Weaver, Sylvan Mutschler, Bob Drury, Jeanette Washington and Debra Fox. Pat Dixon is the consultant and Gates serves as the city’s liaison for the board.
