The following is a list of New Year’s resolutions set by Mayor Mike Grayson for the City of Demopolis. They are in no particular order.
Hire a police chief
“We’ve got our list of applicants and we’re in the process of taking a hard look over them and setting interviews.”
Re-work the city budget to reflect a 15-percent cut in expenses.
“This is an absolute necessity and we’ve already initiated the work into making this a reality.”
Complete French Creek paving project
Complete Demopolis Municipal Complex on time and on budget
Complete corrections to fire station No. 3
“The parking lot doesn’t drain properly, it puddles. With weight of those fire trucks and the standing water, it won’t take long to destroy the asphalt.”
Complete Ratliff Center addition
Complete airport industrial park renovations
Explore the feasibility of establishing a municipal cooperative district
“This would have to be established by resolution of the council, but it allows the city to provide incentives for new and existing businesses to encourage expansion. It’s not a bailout. It’s an incentive to increase business and jobs and it’s not necessarily exclusive for industrial jobs. It would be open to many types of businesses.”
Win the war on drugs and make Demopolis a safer place
“This touches on everything from law enforcement to traffic control. I would want this to be an action item for our incoming police chief.”
Make Demopolis the centerpiece of the River Renaissance Region and the premier place to live, work, go to school, shop, go to church, the premier place for healthcare and fun and recreation.
Grayson footnoted hiring a police chief and the completion of corrections to Fire Station No. 3 are items he would like accomplished in the council’s first 100 days, which will come in early February.
